Our Story

Rooted in Jagacha. Reaching the world.

"An environment free from contamination, a society emancipated from exploitation — with equality of justice for all."
Est. spirit of 2008 Artisan-first West Bengal Fair trade

SONREIR ENTERPRISE PRIVATE LIMITED began its journey on the 15th of August, 2008, in the neighbourhood of Jagacha, Howrah — born from the conviction of a small group of founders that dignity, livelihood and beauty could grow from the same soil. What started as a modest local initiative became a formally registered enterprise in 2010, and has been growing steadily ever since.

We are an autonomous, apolitical and welfare-oriented enterprise, working across multiple districts of West Bengal. We serve and partner with artisan communities regardless of caste, creed or gender — because craft belongs to every hand willing to learn it.

Our vision goes beyond commerce. SONREIR stands for the advancement of literacy, health, hygiene, education and environmental protection as the foundation of sustainable socio-economic progress. Every product we sell carries that intent: fair value to the maker, honest craft to the buyer.

Today our network spans 26 training and craft centres across 6 districts of West Bengal, and we have helped over 7,000 rural youth learn a trade that feeds their families. Our future plans reach further still — skill development for 10,000 youth every year, support for persons with disabilities, and craft rehabilitation centres where old skills find new markets.

Why Sonreir

What a handmade purchase actually does.

i.

Direct from the maker

We buy at fair prices straight from craft clusters — Bikna, Panchmura, Natungram, Pingla — so the artisan's margin isn't eaten by layers of traders.

ii.

No machine copies, ever

Every piece is made by hand, which means small variations, honest materials, and no two items exactly alike. That is the point.

iii.

Skills that stay alive

Part of every sale funds training for rural youth, keeping four-thousand-year-old techniques in working hands rather than museum cases.

iv.

Packed with care, shipped with pride

Fragile terracotta or delicate sholapith — everything leaves Howrah wrapped by people who know what it took to make it.
